Grand regatta

In 1972, the exciting finish and victory of "Dar Pomorza" over the German barque "Gorch Fock" in the regatta of great sailing ships gave Gdynia the right to hold the next race. As a result, Gdynia hosted the armada of the greatest training sailing ships for the first time in 1974. The grand parade in the Gdynia’s roadstead that crowned the race was commented on for a long time. The four-mast "Kruzenszterna" was admired then in Gdynia for the first time, at present a frequent guest in our ports, together with "Towariszcz", the winner of the regatta. The sailing ships from Gdynia ("Dar Pomorza", "Pogoria", "Iskra", and "Zawisza Czarny") as well as smaller yachts often participate in the greatest world sailing races. Gdynia was the host of the training sailing ships fleet four times since that time, in 1992, 2003, 2009 and 2011. All most famous sailing ships have moored in its port.
Regattas are a great celebration for Gdynia and the whole region. Thousands of people come to admire ships, visit their decks, buy souvenirs and collect treasure memories of this extraordinary event. For crews it is a chance to meet other sailors, share experiences and have fun together.
